Proud sponsors

Lifesure are proud to sponsor four young achievers from St Neots - George 17, Lewis 17, Ellie,16 and Thomas, 16 (left to right). They have all been selected to represent Great Britain in the sport of Dragon Boat racing. All four currently paddle for a St Neots based team, The Cambridgeshire Royals, who are in the premier league of UK Dragon Boating. The team have to commit to club training twice a week, along with daily gym training sessions. Each member of the team has a single seater training boat which they take out on the river several times each week.

A long journey

Their journey to achieving success as an official Team GB team has been a long and challenging one. After partaking in Team GB training on most weekends all over the country, they were finally selected to represent Great Britain after final time and fitness trials. George, Lewis and Thomas were selected for the all-male junior Team GB crew and Ellie was selected for the under 24s mixed team.

All four were recently away in Huddersfield attending a 6 day GB training programme. When they aren’t training, the team are competing all over the country for the Cambridgeshire Royals, their local team. This means that most of their weekends are taken up by training, so their commitment is a testament to their success.

A bright future

After taking home medals in 2018 at the European Championships in Brandenburg, Germany, the team look forward to the 14th IDBF World Nations Dragon Boat Championships in Pattaya, Thailand, this August. They will have two weeks of training and following this, a week of racing against other national teams. They will reside in an Olympic style village along with the rest of the GB Dragon Boat squad - the open team, the mixed team (men and women), the under 24s mixed team, and the veterans teams.

There is currently no public funding for GB Dragon Boating, although the sport is being considered for future Olympics Games. The four paddlers from St Neots are dedicated and upstanding young adults, who are immensely proud to have been selected to represent their country in their sport.
